Urbis

Latin is the foundation of so many languages today including English. Many of the words found in English have Latin origins. The English word Urban, meaning city, comes from the Latin Urbs.

Additionally, in the ancient Roman Empire, when any one referred to a city offhanded, they were likely referring to THE city, or the city of Rome.
